Ramon Nunez is a fascinating artist not only because of his signature loose feeling figurative work but also because he has an entirely other style he uses as well. He basically has two different styles and a casual observer might think they were two separate artists or Urban-Muse had slipped up and written the wrong artist or something.

Another thing about Ramon is you haven’t seen him on Urban-Muse as much as I would have liked to post, the reason is some of Ramon’s best work contain nudity in the classical figurative painting style. Urban-Muse is on basically every social network but we are definitely biggest on Facebook, so to not be able to share some of the best work out their because of Nudity policies is disheartening. We often will include these pieces in our yearly “best of” features as well as posting them on Tumblr. We had a chance to talk with Ramon and ask him about these things and of course share some of our favorite pieces of his from his vast web portfolios. Ramon’s style is breathtaking and alluring, and the man is as intriguing as the art he creates.

Urban-Muse.com: You’re a Venezuelan artist living in Alicante Spain, what can you tell us about being an artist living in Spain, what’s your life like?

Ramón Nuñez: It’s really good, food, people, and nature. I’m from Venezuela (Latinamerica) and I’m a bit different to the Europe folks, but at the end we are the same people and enjoy pretty much the same things.

Urban-Muse.com: You are a really interesting artist for many reasons. But one of the most interesting aspects about your work is that you seem to have two completely different styles, the first is a loose nearly impressionistic figurative style focusing heavily on sensual Female imagery, and the other is a highly stylized comic book/anime/manga style. If someone didn’t know better they might think they were from two completely different artists. Why is that? Which one do you like more?

Ramón Nuñez: Well I don’t believe too much in style, sometimes “style” can limit the artist, I just see things that inspired me and try to learn about it, drawing them or just making sketches, kind of exploration and learning, I think that style is something that those around you recognize, not you as an artist.

Urban-Muse.com: Urban-Muse has focused heavily on your looser female imagery for this profile, one of the reasons is because some of it involves nude imagery. Because of Facebook’s nudity policies Urban-Muse has been unable to post most of them, so now’s kind of the chance. What are your feelings on Facebook’s Nudity Policies?

Ramón Nuñez: Not a fan of these policies, I saw Facebook as a tool and if you want to win the game you need to learn how to use it, I received a lot of work thanks to Facebook and I understand in a certain way, I mean your house, your rules.

Urban-Muse.com: It seems like you’re doing a lot of freelance work, including some big name clients, like Riot Games. (League of Legends) What can you tell us about your work there?

Ramón Nuñez: Nothing haha, I mean nothing now, but I can tell you that is really awesome!

Urban-Muse.com: And how about with Gameloft?

Ramón Nuñez: It was a really nice experience, I was pretty noob at that moment, I mean I’m still noob but more in that time haha, I learned so much of this team on Budapest, I was doing some creature design for a game called Dragon Mania Legends and I draw a bunch of little cuties dragons haha not my area but I really enjoy doing this, like said before, I like learn new things.

Urban-Muse.com: Which of your pieces is your favorite? For each style? (So two pieces)

Ramón Nuñez: One of my first illustrations called “sugar hunter” I think I did big jump on that one, talking about technique and “Warrior Elf” it was a mix of realism and texture, I like the movement on this one.

Urban-Muse.com: Which has been your most popular piece yet?

Ramón Nuñez: mmmm, I don’t know haha, I think my cartoony stuff, the Hagrid that I drew a few months ago was really good on my social networks, the people enjoy cute/funny sketches and I enjoy too.

Urban-Muse.com: How important has social media been to you, your art, and your freelance career?

Ramón Nuñez: Well I must say that is really good, I think feedback peoples is a good way to study your experiments and at the same time you can connect with clients, they can see your process or many of your ideas and get interested in you, like I said before about Facebook, Social media is a powerful tool and things are change, if you use it the right way you can go far.

Urban-Muse.com: Every once in a while you find some really negative people on the internet that want to talk trash about you, and your art. What do you do when you encounter people like this?

Ramón Nuñez: It’s okay, this is normal and not new, if is a good critic I listen and learn, if is just hate for no reason I don’t pay attention, no time for weakness.

Urban-Muse.com: What would be your advice to our readers on how to deal with negativity like that?

Ramón Nuñez: Don’t fight, be humble and respect, you must give the example, and don’t take it personal just keep working.

Urban-Muse.com: What would be your advice to a artist who wants to improve their skill so they can create works of art as great as yours?

Ramón Nuñez: haha first I’m not great but I practice a lot, drawing is like going to the gym, you can get a good body if you train every day, people think this is talent but is not, is just practice and study, like a crazy dude, the think is not everyone has discipline, this take time, but if you enjoy art as much as food or videogames, or relationships, you can do it.
