Another great year has gone by for Urban-Muse, and with it thousands more of absolutely breathtaking artworks have been shared on our Facebook and Tumblr. I have taken the past few days to ruminate over the thousands of posts and picked about 250 of the best pieces of the year, I then gradually wittled it down to the 65 best pieces that I feel really encapsulate what this year has been about, and often pieces that you the viewer have voted for with you likes, achieving 1,000 likes or more.
You will no doubt notice that KR0NPR1NZ (Ilya Kuvshinov) and Jace Wallace are the most heavily highlighted. Both these artists have had an outstanding year, and for me the thing that really sets them apart is the sheer magnitude of their work output and the consistent quality delivered. They produce new pieces nearly DAILY. Armed with the popularity on the page (It’s rare a piece by them gets less than 1,000 likes on Urban-Muse) I have to say 2014 has been the Year of KR0NPR1NZ and Jace Wallace.
Urban-Muse started with grand aspirations, full page ads in Juxtapoz, very expensive gallery showings, a grand e-Commerce platform (that barely anyone used), but the most important thing of all. Really kick ass art.
Armed with the positive Slogan I coined “MAKE ART. PAINT THINGS. BE AWESOME.” Urban-Muse has not reached a million likes on facebook (yet), but we HAVE reached millions of viewers because of your shares, I am always overwhelmed daily by the positive support I receive from the page. Nothing gives me more pleasure than finding a new artist who has maybe 200 likes on Facebook, linking them up with the “Urban-Muse Bump” and watching their likes roll in by the hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, or as in the case of Viral Superstar and friend Chiara Bautista, becoming three times bigger than Urban-Muse itself.
I’d also like to briefly mention Fernando Mata Vazquez, from Mexico City. Urban-Muse DOES Accept submissions, the best way to submit art is to post it directly to the facebook wall or submit it to the tumblr feed. I do not like receiving submissions via e-mail or direct message as my inbox is flooded with them as it is. Fernando is one of the people who has submitted art to the page, When he first submitted his work he had around 200 fans. After he was shared on Urban-Muse I noticed a huge jump in his fanbase, and that’s what we’re all about. Also for this feature it turns out one of his pieces was one of the abolute best pieces I’ve seen all year so, In it goes.
Being an artist is hard, I know it personally. Few people realize that the guy who posts obsessively day and night on your feeds is an artist as well. (I go by the Psudonym Decimus [CLICK]). But personally I’ve been having creative issues stemming from a myriad of real life crises. What I’m trying to get at here is, Artists need encouragement, we are the kinds of people who stay up all night, often chugging caffeine (sometimes alcohol or other substances) and obsessively toil away at works that feel like a piece of our soul birthed onto a canvas (or for digital artists a .PSD). Sometimes no one sees the work, sometimes 10 people do, sometimes if you’re lucky thousands. A true artist is always learning, never staying stagnant, art is a life long quest for our own view of perfection, that we will likely never achieve. It is our lifelong passion.
Urban-Muse’s goal is to inspire you the viewer, (like a muse) bring beauty into your newsfeeds, and for the artists we share, we hope to help their light shine that much brighter. I love art, I always will, and for the people and artists who have supported me throughout the years, I love you too.
MAKE ART. PAINT THINGS. BE AWESOME.
