URBAN-MUSE BEST of 2021 Year End Feature

It’s that time of the year again! Time for us to look back on the past 12 months and all the great artwork created and wonderful memories we have made. 2021 for a lot of people was another crummy year like 2020, hopefully 2022 will be better.

I want to give a special shoutout to the artist chosen for this years cover, Miss Nelly Jimenez. Nelly is a young artist from Mexico who’s work has already graced several comic book covers. Her work is consistently getting better and better and can even fool people into thinking it’s a photo (always a good sign), I highly recommend you check her out and give her a follow, she is one of the best of the best, and only getting better.

If you’re a longtime reader of Urban-Muse you’ll notice our daily posts on Instagram and Facebook have gone way down.
I don’t want to get too deep into this but I am really against “Meta” Facebook, and it’s leadership and the decisions they have made. I feel they make the world a worse place, and that by me creating a wonderful page like Urban-Muse on their platform I am only helping this evil corporation get traffic. In the past the facebook page was useful to promote Urban-Muse but ever since they started pushing adverising heavily, they only let a small amount of the 300,000+ fans on actually see the posts due to their almighy “algorithm.”

In addition to those very good reasons, I personally am trying to have a more healthy relationship with social media and how it interacts with my daily life, as a result I deleted the facebook app from my phone, which is how I post most of Urban-Muse’s facebook posts, I still post using the browser but it’s not as versatile and I can’t @ link the artists pages.
I would outright leave Facebook TODAY, if there were a better alternative. Currently there isn’t.

Meta has made a big deal about their “Metaverse” starting with a very rudimentary VR chat app, they will no doubt get better perhaps even achieving photorealism, but I don’t believe in Facebook, and the idea of Facebook ruling our virtual realities like they do with social media is horrifying, and I don’t support it.

That’s why I’m building my own Metaverse, and soon you will too.

The metaverse is a made up catchall term, but the way I want to use it is a way to understand having ALL your media, tv shows, music, art, video games, comics, VR experiences, books, school work etc, all in ONE place.
Everything is too disorganized, we spend our nights endlessly scrolling netflix searching for something to watch, again and again. There has to be a better way to do this, and I have a lot of ideas.
It’s going to start with a new app I am building with the Unreal Engine, you will download it like a game (for free) on your phone, pc, or vr device, and it will transport you to a virtual gallery where instead of reading a blog post like this, you’ll actually by able to view the paintings on a virtual wall either with a vr headset, or using your phone in AR mode.
And the app would allow you and your friends to create your own galleries, using the art on your phone, hd whatever. And you can spend years exploring neverending art galleries and experiences (some based on real galleries like what the Louvre does). Do you remember how fun it was to customize your own page on myspace? Well imagine that in full 3D VR, custom 3d spaces to share with your friends, FILLED with art.
Obviously artist permission has to be obtained and copyrights have to be respected but I think this is the future.

So this is the kind of future I envision for Urban-Muse, a future AWAY from Facebook.

Wish me luck, if this sounds like something you want to be part of feel free to contact me.

Let’s all be safe, let’s be kinder to each other, and as always:
MAKE ART. PAINT THINGS. BE AWESOME.
