URBAN-MUSE BEST of 2020 Year End Feature

It’s that time of the year again, each year for nearly a decade Urban-Muse has been publishing these anthology collections of the best art posted on our social channels all year. But as we all know this year has been particularly hard, even before the COVID-19 Pandemic hit this was a year marked by Tremendous Loss. This has been the hardest year ever, and I personally am barely holding on, on the brink of Homelessness due to this pandemic. Despite all these obstacles, artists all over the world have taken to their drawing pads and art tablets to create art and escape from this dreary existence.
2020 started to take a turn for the worse when earlier this year we lost the incredible artist Qing Han, who had been a regular on these “best of” lists ever since they began. Qing Han was not just another artist to me, she was basically my best friend. Although we never met we would talk daily, about any topic under the sun. Losing her was particularly hard. I recorded a short memorial video where I remember how wonderful she is on my personal instagram page @UltraMused.

This video is hard to watch, but if you loved Qinni, it may bring a smile to your face remembering her ferocious spirit. (Click Above to View)

Shortly after Qinni’s passing, Laker Legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi tragically died in a Helicopter crash in Calabasas. I live in Los Angeles, and am a hardcore Laker Fan, so understandably this hit me hard. I was actually even in the area by the mountains visiting a friend the morning it happened…. the fog that day was so incredibly thick, I could barely see the road in front of me as I drove, I can’t imagine how low the visibility must have been that day…

I attended the memorial and took this photo of a father and his son honoring the fallen legend.

And then not long after that of course the Covid-19 Pandemic Hit, followed by weeks of civil unrest and protests because of horrendous acts of police brutality across the United States. My own city Los Angeles, was placed under Lockdown several times, and I even saw the National Guard at our local mall… it was an insanely scary time. It still is.

I think around this time because of all these tragedies people were concerned for my mental health. I am pleased to report my mental health is strong and I have been taking my health in general very seriously during the pandemic working out daily on a bike, doing yoga, and lifting weights. If it weren’t for that my mental state would be much worse, I’m afraid.

As the Covid pandemic hit, I immediately sprung into action. I was incredibly scared for my friends in the arts who’s incomes were surely going to be impacted. I created the Hashtag #ArtCure2020, inspired by successful art hashtags like Inktober and Visible Women. I want badly to help all of us artists who don’t have millions of fans and healthy patreons.

I encourage people to use that hashtag to help people find pandemic related art, and to help those artists who have been impacted by this terrible plague. The ArtCure2020 page is biggest on Facebook with 2,000+ fans so far. You can check it out here, and search for the #ArtCure2020 tag on an social network.

During the pandemic I have been using all of this extra time to work on several special projects. The first was a media center project that I worked on until June. June through August I worked on launching my new filmmaking website UltraMused.com.

During the Summer months I created 5 new video projects, and have uploaded a handful since then. The response to UltraMused has been crippling low, after spending literally the entire summer on these videos I was rewarded with only a handful of likes, many videos receiving no likes at all. This was a crushing blow, but a long time ago Urban-Muse.com was the same way, and now with over 500,000 follower on all the networks combined, we actually just had our biggest post EVER this year. Early this year a post by Janel Drewis announcing she got her dream job at Pixar gathered over 500,000 reactions on a single post. (See the post here)

So even though the numbers aren’t currently there for UltraMused, I am confident they will come.

The goal of UltraMused is to create increasingly impressive video projects that will ultimately lead to funding for my dream project. Urban-Muse the TV Show. My dream is to create a travel show like the late Anthony Bourdain, where I am able to travel the world (on a networks dime) to visit all of my favorite artists in person, in their homes, and to share a meal with them and to learn about them as actual human beings, not just pixels on a screen.

I believe in my heart this show could be my lifes defining work, and help to inspire struggling artists worldwide, and I am going to work hard the next 10 years to get there. I may not achieve those lofty dreams but I can guarantee there will be lots of fun projects in my future.

Right now I am focusing a lot on doing 4K upscales of Old Nostalgic TV Shows in movies, but as the pandemic leaves and we have vaccines I will do more in person documentation interview work, as well as music videos and commercials. Here’s a sample upscaling Miami Vice to 4K.

As a result of this my focus is no longer on Urban-Muse. My focus right now is on UltraMused. Despite only having a handful of likes tonight, I am confident that someday in the future UltraMused will be bigger than Urban-Muse.
I am going to create video projects with UltraMused, for Urban-Muse, artist profiles etc. And next year this “best of” feature will likely be a video. So even with UltraMused in the picture, it’s only going to enhance the content you see on Urban-Muse, the “muse” isn’t going anywhere.

I have spent the past 10 years of my life promoting thousands of artists worldwide and helping to launch countless careers worldwide, all the while while I was dealing with crippling depression unable to create art of my own anymore. Well I beat that depression, and I am making art every day again. I’m back baby! And I want the readers of Urban-Muse to know that I am an artist too, I always have been. And you ain’t seen nothing yet.
